Really. I’m in a bit of a bind. This little guy:

Kinja'd!!!

...is causing me headaches. I’ve been given this image to identify that module and and determine if it is movable.

This is on a 2017 Ford PI Utility, transmission tunnel, at the front edge of the stock cover plate. The part number best-guess reading is HU5T-14G490-AF.

I’ve done hours of googling and found only items listed as “MODULE.” I’ve contacted local Ford dealerships, and their answer is also “MODULE.”

Does anyone have a bloody clue what the hell this thing does?

Thanks kindly!

system says it’s “MOD.ASY.EXT.PWR.”

digging deeper, it’s the “Extended Power Module” which keeps other modules like the RCM (which controls the airbags) awake and powered for a time after the ignition is turned off.

looks like the right location for the keyless transponder module, but not sure if thats actually what it is...

All I’m getting is the “module” thing too. No mention of what said module does, though if I type out just the middle numbers, it appears it might be related to a backup camera?

Outstanding. I’m in your debt.

I was getting much of the same, but could get images with the backup camera designation, which obviously didn’t match my image.

that camera is a Land Rover part.

yeah, the camera is a Land Rover part. L-R stuck with the Ford part # format after the sale, but I don’t know if they still do. Ford does not use the same part number base for different kinds of parts.

I really do appreciate the rapid response. It tells me all I need to know: Don’t move the damn thing.

Slightly of surprised it isn’t in the upfitter’s manual, since damn near everyone removes that cover plate.

I don’t see why you couldn’t move it, AFAIK it’s not position dependent. all it does is send CAN messages to keep the RCM awake for a period of time.

If I were doing it on my own, sure, I’d move it without a care... but I’m telling others how to deal with it, so I like to lean on the safe side.

Edit: Also, if the installer moves the module to install my part, they have to bust the studs off for clearance. Better on our end to just redesign the bracketry to avoid the problem.

Can confirm. Looked it up in Ford engineering.

Yeah, that's where I looked it up, so thanks, I guess.

HU5T-14G490-AF, BECMB MODULE ADDRESS 723. Called New Extended Power Module.

The BECMB is mounted just forward of the RCM on the center tunnel. The BECMB location can be relocated but the length of the
wire harness can not be changed.
The BECMB provides system voltage to the RCM and Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM) when the ignition is ON. Additionally,
the BECMB is designed to ensure that the RCM and OCSM remain powered if the ignition is turned off while the vehicle is moving at a speed
greater than 4 Km/h (2.5mph).
If the ignition is turned off while the vehicle is traveling at a speed above 4 km/h (2.5 mph), the BECMB maintains system voltage on the RCM
and OCSM power supply circuits. Once the vehicle speed drops below the threshold while the ignition is off, the BECMB powers down the
RCM and OCSM. If the vehicle speed rises above the threshold again, the BECMB does not reactivate the power supply to the RCM and
OCSM. They remain off until the ignition is turned on again.
If a vehicle is parked, with the ignition off, the BECMB does not provide power to the RCM and OCSM. If the vehicle begins to move, while the
ignition is still off, the BECMB does not power the RCM or OCSM.
When the vehicle has been started using the remote start feature (if equipped), the ignition status is off, but the BECMB powers the RCM in
order to detect a collision and disable the fuel pump, if necessary.
